Good.

This article defines the steps to, in the future, deploy domain controllers running Windows Server operating system 2008 R2 within our organization. (This procedure also serves to Windows Server 2008, 32 and 64-bit versions).

The procedure is quite simple since they are only 3 commands, but we must be sure where to do it: I will explain. In order to use servers with the Domain Controller role in Windows Server 2008 we must have the domain functional level in a mixed 2000 than Windows version. Is any native mode will suffice.

To check the domain functional level you will ubicáis on a domain controller and Users and Computers Active Directory:

DomainController2008R2_1

Right-click on the domain pulsáis on Raise the domain functional level.

DomainController2008R2_2

Here you have the current domain functional level and their possible elevation appear (This change is not reversible unless you make a Disaster Recovery of Active Directory. Do not you shall lift without being sure that all domain controllers in your organization have the necessary requirements ).

That is to say:

2000 mixed functional level: All domain controllers can be Windows Server or NT Server 2000.

2000 native functional level: All domain controllers must be Windows Server 2000 or higher.

2003 native functional level: All domain controllers must be Windows Server 2003 or higher.

2008 native functional level: All domain controllers must be Windows Server 2008 or higher.

After checking that your domain has the correct functional level we find the domain controllers or harboring the role of Schema master and of Infrastructure master. In order to prepare the forest is essential requirement to do so on the Schema Master and to prepare the domain is necessary to do so on the Infrastructure master.

To find out what roles have each server can follow these articles reference.

Move FSMO roles through the command line.

Move FSMO Roles to a new server using graphical environment.

Well now we have only to insert the cd-rom with Windows Server 2008 R2 on the server that hosts the schema master role. (Always do first preparing the forest and then the domain) Remember that in order to do this we must be members of the Enterprise Administrators group.

We are located in a command line and in the CD-ROM we write the following command: support \ adprep \ adprep / forestprep (If the CD-ROM of Windows Server 2008 2 version is R64 bits and the domain controller where we did the adprep command is not to be run support \ adprep \ adprep32 / forestprep.

DomainController2008R2_3

Press the key C and press the key Enter (This message warns that all domain controllers must have at least Service Pack Windows 2000 4 after this step.

DomainController2008R2_5

we stand on the server that hosts the role after finishing the process Infrastructure Master, Insert the cd-rom and a command line from the CD drive run the command: support \ adprep \ adprep / domainprep (If the CD-ROM of Windows Server 2008 2 version is R64 bits and the domain controller where we did the adprep command is not to be run support \ adprep \ adprep32 / domainprep. (Remember that in order to do this we must be members of the Domain Administrators group).

DomainController2008R2_6

Now let's run the command: support \ adprep \ adprep / domainprep / gpprep for functionality RSOP (Resultant Set of Policy) can be used in the future (In case of CD-ROM of Windows Server 2008 R2 is version 64 bits and the domain controller where we did the adprep not be the command run will be support \ adprep \ adprep32 / domainprep / gpprep

DomainController2008R2_7

If you please start using domain controllers running Windows Server 2008 in RODC mode (read only) you will have to use the / rodcprep full command: support \ adprep \ adprep / rodcprep but especially in the case that we have in our forest DNS application partitions since not perform this step not be replicated those partitions.

DomainController2008R2_17

Only as comment: If not realicéis the above command to make a dcpromo on an existing domain a similar message will appear the next.

DomainController2008R2_16

Accepting the message is sufficient but it said if you a case.

With this we have everything you need to start implementing contr
oladores domain with Windows Server 2008 R2.

I hope you have been helpful and you soon MegaCracks.

    Good morning;

In a Windows domain 2000 Native with Windows 2 2000 DC DC 1 Windows Server and Server 2008 bit 64 currently have the roles of PDC and RID Manager Groups I install a new DC, this time with the Windows 2008 Standard 32 bits.

In making the DCPROMO I receive the message that "you can not install a domain controller read-only in this domain because it still has not run" adprep / rodcprep ".

Where I have to ejcutar the command "adprep / rodcprep"?

Why tells me that will "read only"?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Good anonymous, look at this article if you want to be more clear. http://www.megacrack.es/2009/12/04/como-crear-un-domain-controller-secundario-con-windows-server-2008-r2-x64/ where all the "step by step" of the creation of DC R2 W8k2 that although they serve the screens as well.

The adprep / rodcprep as indicated in the article that you are only drivers to create read-only domain, for example in delegations where the server is not in a cpd and sensitive to be subtracted / stolen.

    Greetings.

    Hey.

One thing still not clear to me and is, at what time or stage I do the restoration of SYSVOL, before or after moving the roles, the preparation of the forest or domain, just install the server having connected the domain? Please can I clarify this issue and under what type of restoration should I choose.

    Thank you.

    Hello everyone
    I have a cosulta them ..........
I have 1 2008 DC Windows Server and Windows 1 Server 2003 DC
2003 native functional level: All domain controllers must be Windows Server 2003 or higher.
It is generating a problem I try to incorporate a new DC Windows Server RC2008 2 x6.
CALLS ME PREPARE THE FOREST adprep / forestprep I have in the windows DC 2008 Server BUT NOT LEFT JOIN REGISTRATION IS STILL THERE AND I ASKED TO PREARE THE FOREST.

which would be the ADD THIS NEW SERVER

  9. xavixaus Says:

    Good Gerardo.

What you have to do is prepare the forest from the r2 x64.

If you do not say vuelvemelo salts

  10. Gerardo Says:

    hello xavixaus

To be honest I did in the r2 X64
and actually not as serious as this is doing the new server I try to enter my forest.

if you give me a hand would be very grateful.

  11. xavixaus Says:

  12. Gerardo Says:

hi I'm doing looks xavixaus in r2 x64

But not being a domain controller still gives me this result .............. what would be the solution.

    E: \ support \ adprep> adprep32 / forestprep
Adprep can not run on this platform because it is a driver of Sun
    Inio Active Directory.
    [State and therefore]
    Adprep stopped without making changes.
    [User Action]
Run Adprep on a domain controller in Active Directory.

  13. xavixaus Says:

    Congratulations

He almost had it, all you do is copy the adprep directory r2 the domain controller without r2 and run it from there.

    See you soon

  14. Gerardo Says:

There if I played hard my friend, as would make that process.
You tell me if I understood you well

adprep the domain controler R2 without R2

    as do the copy ..............?

  15. xavixaus Says:

    Good Gerardo

All you have to do is put the cd in your 2 r2008 and execute commands from the cdrom drive

  16. Gerardo Says:

many thanks my friend are what I did and it worked maximum .........................
    you saved me ....

  17. Franco Lopez Says:

    Hello everyone

I have problems with the migration, I explain the scenario, I have Windows Server DCs 3 2003 Ent 32 Bit and I'm pretending to W Server 2008 migralo R2 64 Bit, I just prepare the forestprep, but when I run the / domainprep does not leave any message , and when I try to promote 2008 64 BIt Server I get an error that says something like "Pr instlar a domain controller into this Active Directory forest, you must first prepare the forest (adprep / forestprep)" ... I can make friends.? ?

  18. xavixaus Says:

    Good Franco.

First make sure you have the Infrastructure Master role to the domainprep. Before that stand on the Schema Master server and do it again forestprep.

Tell me that it go and continue from this point.

  19. Franco Lopez Says:

    Hello,

One of the servers 3 has all the roles, and then run the foresprep again and leave me alone .. ellipsis I run the domainprep and then simply passed to the next line and does not leave any message, is there any command to check which roles are the servers?

I'm using the Eye W DVD 2008 R2 64bit Server to run the command (adprep32 / forestprep) on the DC WSeerver R2003 2 32 bit.

    Thanks in advance

  20. Alejandro Says:

    Thank you.

  21. Armando Says:

    Hello,

I have one concern: I have a windows currently 2008 32 of bits in which I have installed the DNS server, the question is? is possible to replicate the active directory on a server from the windows 2008 64bits.

  22. xavixaus Says:

    Good Armando,

The answer is yes, no problem in doing so. Only have to be sure if you have windows computers 2000 and all the forest functional level that you may have problems 2008 logon in windows 2000 and earlier, but at the replica will have no problem. Windows can coexist peacefully 2008 in its different versions.

    Greetings.

  23. Arojas Says:

    How about
R2003 2 server I have had a bit 32 additional driver like 2003 R2 32 bit server, which replied throne and could not recover, now I want to migrate the primary 2003 2008 R2 SE 64 bit, I followed your instructions just in run support \ adprep \ adprep32 / forestprep and subsequent pulse c key shows me the following error
Adprep was unable to extend the schema

the schema master did not complete a replication cycle after the last reboot. the schema master must complete at least one replication cycle because you can extend the schema

    user action

verify that the schema master is connected to the network and can communicate with domain controllers otrs. use the Sites and Services to replicate between the schema operations master and at least one replication partner. After replication has succeeded, run adprep again

  24. xavixaus Says:

    Good Arojas.

I think what you do is do the forestprep command but with the support \ adprep \ adprep / forestprep from the folder as you 32 bit indicates that the operating system is 32 bits and not the case ..

    Greetings and and tell us.
