Written by Xaus Xavier Nadal on December 16th, 2009

Good.

Today I'll show you how to install System Center Operations Manager 2007 R2 on Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 (This time the software I will install in Castilian and will be understood much better).

SCOM_02

NOTE: the version already exists System Center Service Manager Beta 2010 2 who he left the 6 2009 October but currently no longer use that can only be installed on Windows Server 2008, 2008 Windows Server R2 and not all of you have. Indispensably requires SQL Server also 2008.

NOTA2: If System Center Operation Manager is installed on 2007 R2 system 64 bit database must also be 64 bits.

You can find more information on requirements in the following link: http://technet.microsoft.com/es-es/library/bb309428.aspx

System Center Operations Manager 2007 R2 (SCOM) is a software that helps us monitor and manage our fleet of servers (Windows, Unix, Linux) from a central console and be able to analyze compliance with the SLA's agreed with the customer can more effectively detect possible future service problems proactively. For example we would be able to detect that the service POP3 Exchange server has fallen or that we lack space on a disk c: \ print server that will cause customers can not print or even we detect faults at the hardware level.

I will divide the article in several as this will not be so heavy and can be used as a reference these parts of other items.

This is the available space of a disk after installing the prerequisites 15GB so ... lacking a larger disk to 15 GB.

We will also need a minimum of 2 GB of RAM.

SCOM_01

This is the same space 15 GB disk after installing the prerequisites and the program. We need a space of about 30 GB or depending on the size of the organization more GB if we do not want to use additional disks for databases, logs, etc ... that is recommended.

So I recommend 20 GB C: and D 20 GB: for database, logs, etc ...

SCOM_03

First of all as we should already start making all of our implementations is to conduct a performance test and training to detect whether the system we install will require additional hardware.

You can read the following article to see how it works:

How to install and use System Center Capacity Planner for 2007 2007 System Center Operations Manager

You can find more information about Capacity Planner in:

http://www.microsoft.com/systemcenter/en/us/capacity-planner.aspx

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb971935.aspx

After the brief explanation and verification requirements we turn to the preparation / installation:

As we will mount on Windows Server 2008 R2 X64. (You can follow this article to see how 2008 installed Windows from scratch but without the passage of sysprep since this server will not be a basis: Installing Windows Server Std 2008 R2 X64 step by step to use BASE).

Now that we have a clean server Windows Server 2008 with the latest patches proceed to make the first settings to prepare the server to install the product

1.- We started the session as a local administrator.

2.- We set a fixed IP.

3.- Configure a name server (in our case we have called MegaSCOM).

4.- We insert the server in the domain.

First let's install some prerequisites (if it instaléis on Windows Server 2003 be some more eg PowerShell).

5.- We insert the DVD with the System Center Operations Manager 2007 R2.

SCOM_1

click on Check prerequisites (Takes a few seconds to display the screen).

SCOM_2

We mark all options and click on Check.

Now you can click on more where we indicate what we have to be done to install the requested requirements.

We started the easy:

Because the operating system we are using is Windows Server 2008 we headed to the server manager and add the new feature. NET framework already installed 3.5.1 IIS also. So 2 kill birds with one stone.

SCOM_4

click on Add features.

SCOM_5

We mark . NET Framework Features 3.5.1.

SCOM_6

Window will appear that you must install IIS. Click on Add Required Role Services.

click on Next.

SCOM_8

Now click on ASP.NET (We also need).

SCOM_9

We again suggest that to activate this feature you need to install more roles. Click on Add Required Role Services.

SCOM_10

We set:

Static Content

Directory Browsing

HTTP Errors

Windows Authentication

IIS Metabase Compatibility 6

WMI Compatibility IIS 6

Finally should look like the image below.

SCOM_14

click on Next.

SCOM_11

click on install.

SCOM_12

click on Close.

Now we download and install the file to solve the prerequisite ASP.NET AJAX Extensions 1.0 since:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=ca9d90fa-e8c9-42e3-aa19-08e2c027f5d6&displaylang=en

SCOM_15

click on Next.

SCOM_16

We mark I accept the terms in the License Agreement and click on Next.

SCOM_17

click on install.

SCOM_18

Unmarked Display Microsoft ASP.NET AJAX Extensions 2.0 1.0 Release Notes and click on Finish.

Now we realize the prerequisites check to see how it has been after this installation.

SCOM_13

Well now we only need to install SQL Server Reporting Services or if you already have one in our organization use. Remember to be 64 bit if the operating system is too.

Now for the last requirement Installing SQL Server on Windows Server 2008 2008 R2.

Finally:
