This article shows the step by step solution to the error Error HRESULT 0x800706BE which causes can not be opened roles inside of the Server Manager.

The steps are as follows:

Close all instances of Server Manager.

download tool System Update Readiness for Windows-based Vista, Windows Server 2008, 2008 R2 Windows Server and Windows computers 7 from the link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821. (Download the Windows Server 2008 R2 x64)

When installed 15 wait minutes or so to perform patch scan of the file system and Windows registry for inconsistencies.

Check the file C: \ Windows \ Logs \ CBS \ Checksur.log y CbsUpdateState.bin for errors (Check that there are corrupt files).

Verify that the following folder C: \ Windows \ system32 \ ServerManager \ Cacheno files CbsUpdateInfo.bin y CbsUpdateState.bin and if we copy from another server with the same characteristics, patch level and installed roles and start the Server Manager to remove these become.
