Configure vCenter Server Appliance Mode 5.1

This article is the second part of the article Install vCenter Server Appliance Mode 5.1.

In the previous article we explain how to install vCenter Server 5.1 in Appliance mode, a system that does not require the installation of a Windows server as a base because it has a system based on a distribution of SUSE Linux Enterprise 11 (64-bit) own operating system .

In the previous article we were at the end of the installation from an OVF into ESXi environment, prepared from a dynamic IP (DHCP) by which through a web environment we could connect us to continue with this article that explains how to configure vCenter Server 5.1 when it installed in Appliance mode.

We will configure the basic settings of this tool, user and password, database, network configuration and we will start automatically services to enjoy a vSphere Client connection 5.1 to this virtual environment.

User: root

Password: vmware

Read the license agreement and MARCAD Accept license agreement and click on Next.

Now what we will do is set up the environment with a static IP as any other server. To do this we must close this wizard, go to the tab Network -> Address IPv4 down and select the Address Type: Static

Configure the required data:

Hostname: <The Server name without spaces>

IPv4 Default Gateway: <The VLAN gateway or gateway of your <Network

Preferred DNS Server: <The Your primary dns organization>

Alternate DNS Server: <The Organization> your secondary dns

IPv4 Address: <The Fixed server ip that you queráis>

Netmask: <The Netmask that suits the ip and gateway that you configurado>

just click on Save Settings.

When you do this you will lose the web administration since the system now has a new IP. access the web with the IP address you have configured http://<server>:5480(Remember also that if you have defined VLAN in the company you will have to reconfigure the virtual machine settings to configure the proper vswitch with the new IP)

CLICK on the right panel Utilities about us Setup wizard -> Launch to configure the database and following this little setup our environment we can access the tool from VirtualCenter VSphere Client.

Seleccionad Configure WITH DEFAULT settings (This will create a database embedded format, not integrate SSO with Active Directory, but you can configure it later if you want) click on Next.

We review the settings and if correct click on Start.

The process takes a while, but we will see the progress of the configuration database and then the SSO though we have not set .. not be hung or anything, and wait a little patience, we usually lack enough.

At the end of the process the following screen.

As you can see in the picture above, we have the system fully configured and ready for use.

Now we have only to change the root password on the Admin tab and accessed from Vsphere Client.

From this moment and we can access the vCenter Server Appliance 5.1 mode from the vSphere Client. (Perhaps ye are actualizaros client version, but then you can use the system as if it were a standard Windows-based vCenter).

If not disponéis can 5.1 vSphere Client to access the web from your new vcenter https://<ip> directly without port and download the application from there.

When you first access the following warning: with license 60 days. After this period of time the system will stop working vcenter but inside machines will not fade or anything like that.
