In this article we will show how installing vCenter Server 5.1 no need for a Windows operating system as well save base server license the Windows operating system since this appliance is mounted on Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise 11 (64-bit) and configured with 2 vCPU and 8 GB of RAM. (Relax, then modify the virtual machine to put fewer resources as they usually have not all 8 GB free RAM for machines of this type ..)

The system is fully functional as in the Windows-based version, and its installation is quite simple, if you read on you will see that with a series of simple steps instalaréis the product without problems. It is not necessary to have knowledge of Linux, as you can see we are not going to enter or Linux shell mode.

If you want more information after reading the article you can leave a comment at the end of the post and I will respond as soon as possible.

The first thing to do is to unburden VMware vCenter Server Appliance 5.1.0a - OVA File from the following link:

https://my.vmware.com/web/vmware/details?productId=285&downloadGroup=VCL-VSP510-VC-510A-EN

Remember that you will have to have a user of My VMware to download.

This 2 GB file containing the necessary files. Vmdk,. Ovf, etc. ..) to start the installation.

VCenter

The steps for installation are:

We access the server for VMware vSphere Client (ESXi) where you want to install the template and click on the Menu Fillet-> Deploy OVF Template.

VCenter Appliance

click on Browse and select the file. OVF we downloaded in the previous step and click on Next.

VcenterAppliance

click on Next.

Virtual Appliance Center

Assign a name to the virtual machine (The nomenclature that you have implemented in your business ...).

If you are creating an environment low in a Virtual Center parameters are different, you will have to define the Inventory Location the location, the cluster and the host on which to install the appliance.

click on Next.

Appliance Vritual

Select the Storage where we have enough space for the new appliance and click on Next.

Vritual vCenter Appliance

We found that the Datastore is correct and mark Thin Provision (This will create the disc. Vmdk is dynamic and only occupies the space used by the virtual machine) When these discs we have to be careful with free space in the cabin as we watch another value called instead Provisioned Used. Remember that with the implementation of thin provisioning disks lose IOPS speed, but worth it in most cases use discs with auto provisioning Thick disk instead.

click on Next.

Deploy OVF

We define the network card that you will use this machine and click on Next. (I recommend that you put a card with DHCP enabled, otherwise when you pull up the virtual environment for the first time you will see a screen indicating that it has detected the network card (Since no one has offered any IP).

Deploy OVF Template

We check that the data are correct and click on Finish. (No marquéis Power on after deployment) as the default machine uses 8 GB of RAM and I do not think that you may have available ...)

Deploying VMware vCenter

The system will perform deploy the OVF creating the virtual machine VMware vCenter Appliance.

deploy VMware vCenter

This message appears when finished. Click on Close.

VMware vCenter Server Appliance

As you can see the machine has been created and have the hardware that we mentioned at the beginning of the article. Since not all 8 disponéis GB of RAM we modify it so that it has 1 GB of RAM for example, what are minimum recommended 256 MB, but for more of such equipment must have 1000 4 GB of RAM (Make your calculations) ... We could also leave the machine with 1 vCPU but I do not have problems of CPU in the virtual environment, the minimum requirements are 500 Mhz. As you see it. Remember that the more resources you have this machine you can manage more machines.

If you want to see more details you can read the following article: http://www.shavlik.com/vvpep-cm-requirements.aspx

click on Edit Settings to put 1 vCPU and 2 GB of RAM and start the server.

Configure vCenter Appliance

If you set all options as I have recommended you can access through a web browser to the IP offered by the previous screen port 5480. This IP is provided by your DHCP server.

The next article will show you how Configure vCenter Server Appliance Mode 5.1.

Hopefully you enjoyed as vCenter Server Install 5.1

Until next time.
