Compress without losing image quality (Riot)

Posted by Xaus Xavier Nadal 23rd on October 2012

riot_icon_120Compressing an image without losing quality is technically impossible, but the human eye and can not see all the shades of the image or colors that are embedded in them, we can "trick" to make it appear that the image is the same, but actually occupying a much smaller space.

The program that we are going to show you today is Riot and you can download from http://download.criosweb.ro/download.php?sid=riot&type=installer CLICK on Download Riot standalone application, advertising misleads rather on this website.

Riot named for the acronym Radical Image Optimization Tool It is a tool to optimize images without appreciating that we put quality loss in many ways.

It really is an incredible tool because it can compress the image of a form espectacular.riot

I use it enough to insert images in the articles, including the images published in the wordpress theme.

Its use is extremely simple, only will have to start the program and move a photo to it. Or open it via the menus.

The program is capable of real-time, display the results and the space occupied by the final image. we can even define the space we want to occupy the final document and provide the best possible configuration to get it.

We have many options to play and to compress image, different compression algorithms, different formats, JPG, PNG, GIF, we can even eliminate image metadata because as you know and you can see in the articles of evil, these data are easily trackable http://www.elladodelmal.com/search/label/Metadatos

I hope you like it. Ahhh, .. and best of all, it is free.

Greetings and see you soon.

Steps to improve loading speed of your blog or website (Part II)

Posted by Xaus Xavier Nadal 14th on November 2010

We continue with the improvements in the speed of loading our blog.

Now we move to the point CDN (Content Delivery Network), or rather that the files, images, JS, CSS, etc. are located in a domain without cookies (cookieless) and spread around the world.

To achieve this we need or have a domain or subdomain without cookies that I have not managed to find out how to do it and I preferred to go this way easier and at a very affordable price, achieving an increase in loading speed considerably blog.

My choice has been to use MAXCDN as CDN service provider.

But you will ask and that is CDN: Well this is a set of high-performance servers that work together to distribute the content that we want across hundreds of servers instead of from a single server where we hosted our blog.

With this we obtain that every visitor by its location on the world map containing the information from the nearest server and get the user in this case you who are reading this you receive a substantial improvement in loading speed of my blog.

Steps to improve loading speed of our blog or website (Part I).

Posted by Xaus Xavier Nadal 14th on November 2010

Good,

This tutorial I will devote almost exclusively to substantially improve the loading speed of a blog made in Wordpress.

This tutorial we also can serve to find programming errors on our website, or even ways to optimize the code of it, but the item must be more focused on wordpress as I said before because tests have I done with my current blog resided in a new hosting as you know but with my beloved CMS (WordPress).

The first thing to know is that there are websites or plugins that we greatly facilitate this work.

The sites I've used for this benchmark are:

1.- http://www.webpagetest.org

2.- http://gtmetrix.com/

The plugins I've used are for firefox and have been:

1.- firebug

2.- Pagespeed
