Updates to vSphere vSphere 4.1 5

Posted by jl on March 13 2013th

Hello everyone

En este y sucesivos artículos os vamos a describir los pasos que hemos seguido para realizar la actualización de vSphere 4.1 a vSphere 5 en un entorno de producción .

The virtual infrastructure that we set is composed of a cluster 3 4.1 ESX servers and virtualized vCenter Server database having an external SQL server 2005. Besides the three ESX servers, two are migrated from previous versions and you have a new installation of version 4

The steps that we have divided the upgrade process were as follows:

Upgrade licenses

Pre requirements

updating vCenter

Reload vSphere client

Update update manager

Actualizar esx host

Reload vmtools

Virtual hardware upgrade

Reload datastores

We will develop each of the parties Megacrack read »

A few days ago we came the need to mount the CD / DVD in an ESXi 5 to install an agent, and one thing that we thought it would be like in a UNIX / LINUX not work. In the VMware support page not found anything about how to do it, but in the next blog if you find how to do it, so we leave the link in case you ever comes this need.

Cleanup ESX servers 4.1

Posted by jl on February 8 2013th

Hello everyone

In this article we will see how free space on servers ESX 4.1 or seeing an actual example above has happened to us.

In all servers ESX that are in version 4.1 and facilities are not new, but coming from previous version updates, such as 3.5 4 or we may be that when we're going to patch a bug that the task could not be completed , which may be of the style "Did not succeed for remediation hostesx.local, esxupdate operation 1.30 15 version Error"

One of the causes of this error may be we do not have enough space in the / boot partition as in older versions of vmware hosts ESX only had 100MB. To check open an ssh session to the host ESX and we run the command df -h we can see the size of the partitions team

[[Email protected] vmware] # df -h

Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on

/ Dev / sde5 4.9G 2.8G 1.8G 61% /

/ Dev / sde2 2.0G 377M 1.5G 21% / var / log

/ Dev / sdc1 99M 98M 1M 79% / boot

/ Dev / sdc2 4.9G 2.7G 1.9G 59% / esx3-installation

/ Dev / sdc1 99M 74M 21M 79% / esx3-installation/boot

/ Dev / sdc6 2.0G 176M 1.7G 10% / esx3-installation/var/log

Here we can see that we only have one free 1MB the / boot partition so you do not have enough space to install the new patch. To see that this is what we're occupying the space to the / boot and run the command ls-la

[[Email protected] boot] # ls -la

-rw-rXCHARXrXCHARX 1 root root 1672284 Jun 28 2012 vmlinuz-2.6.18-274.ESX

Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on

/ Dev / sde5 4.9G 2.8G 1.8G 61% /

/ Dev / sde2 2.0G 378M 1.5G 21% / var / log

/ Dev / sdc6 2.0G 176M 1.7G 10% / esx3-installation/var/log

Already it freed some space and we can proceed to install the patches.
